EKBOX Quick Start Guide


Welcome to your new EKBOX, a 36-key split ergonomic keyboard with an optional modular trackball. Follow these steps to get your keyboard set up and customized for your workflow.

Quick Start

1.Install the Trackball:

Insert the trackball module securely into the designated trackball mount on the keyboard.

2.Connect the Halves:

Use a USB-C cable to connect the left side of the keyboard to the right side.

3.Connect to your Computer:

Use a second USB-C cable to plug the left side of the keyboard directly into your computer.

Features & Shortcuts

The EKBOX comes packed with intelligent firmware features (running the latest firmware as of September 7, 2026).

  • Auto-Mouse Layer (Layer 4): Your keyboard will automatically trigger the mouse layer as soon as you use the trackball. It will intelligently return to your previous active layer when the trackball has been idle for approximately 0.5 seconds.
  • PMW Animation Toggle (experimental): To enable or disable the PMW animation on the display, press and hold the 0,0 (top left) and 0,1 (top 2nd left) keys on the left half simultaneously.

Customization

Adjusting the Spring Suspension

You can customize the typing feel by adjusting the internal spring suspension

1.Disconnect Cables:

Disconnect all USB-C cables from both halves of the keyboard before beginning.

2.Remove the Magnetic Case:

Carefully remove the magnetic case by lifting upward from the outside edges.

3.Adjust Suspension:

Use a 2mm hex key to adjust the tightness of the suspension mechanism to your preferred typing feel.

4.Reattach the Case: Do not force it.

Carefully reattach the magnetic case. Make sure to align and insert the case insert first, letting the magnets pull it into place—never force the case down.

  • Keymapping: Visit vial.rocks in your browser to instantly customize your layout, layers, and macros.

  • Bootloader Mode: For left side, press top 2nd left key and plug the uscbc cable. For right side, press top 2nd right key and plug the uscbc cable.
